2008 Fundraiser
The 2nd Annual SEAPaddle NYC Invitational and White Water Evening is an opportunity to bring awareness and funding for SEA’s environmental projects and several Autism charities. The first event in 2007 was conceived and conducted by Andrew Mencinsky, SEA executive director and world renowned waterman and SEA board member Darrick Doerner and kicked off with The White Water Evening, a spectacular gala held on an ocean front estate in Monmouth Beach NJ. Last year's event was attended by 300 guests who came to rub elbows with paddle participants and supporters such as legendary surfers Gerry Lopez and Joel Tudor. These participants two days later paddled (with roughly 50 other paddlers) the 28 miles around Manhattan Island.
In 2008, it is SEA and the Autism charities’ goal to raise $300,000 in donations and corporate sponsorships. The events are coordinated by several volunteer committees and board members of SEA. 50% of the proceeds will support Surfers' Environmental Alliance’s work to preserve beach ecology and coastal habitats, with a specific focus on the artificial reef scheduled for North Long Branch, New Jersey. SEA is working on projects that help protect recreational surf breaks and help Federal, State and local governments create alternative storm mitigation solutions that are cost effective and ecologically sound.
